Activity points are a mandatory non-academic requirement for the KTU B.Tech degree. You earn 2 credits by taking part in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. Those 2 credits are not counted in your CGPA, but without them the degree is not awarded.
The requirement sits in R6.23 of the B.Tech 2019 Regulation and in the equivalent clause of the 2015 Regulation. It is treated as a course you pass, not as a bonus.
How many points you need

For lateral entry and readmitted students joining at any other point, the Academic Council approved a formula in Proceedings No. KTU/ASST(ACADEMIC)/3081/2018 dated 07.06.2019:
Activity points = 12.5 × (9 − semester in which the student is admitted)
Applied to a lateral entry student admitted in S3, this gives 12.5 × 6 = 75, which is why that figure appears in the regulation. A student readmitted into S5 would need 12.5 × 4 = 50.

These are the single largest entries in the list. Two semesters of NSS, NCC or NSO covers 70 of the 100 points on its own.
College level activities

An additional 20 points are given for CA3 or CA7 if the achievement is at national level.
Note that the code CA3 appears twice in the University’s own table — once for athletic and games teams, once for executive members of student clubs. The two rows carry different point values, so go by the activity name rather than the code.

This is the highest-value category in the list. A filed patent, attracted venture capital or a completed prototype is worth 80 points each — enough to leave only 20 points to find elsewhere.
Self-initiative activities

The points cell against SA3 is left blank in the Academic Manual itself. If you are claiming under SA3, get the value confirmed by your Faculty Advisor before you count on it.
SA5 and SA6 are the two most accessible entries here at 50 points each, and neither depends on a college event happening.
You must keep a file of proofs
The regulation is explicit: students are required to keep a file containing documentary proof of every activity, attested by the Senior Faculty Advisor or Faculty Advisor. Points are not credited from memory or from a certificate you produce at the end of four years.
Activity points earned during a semester are reviewed alongside internal marks and attendance at the class committee, and Faculty Advisors are required to monitor the points earned by students in their advisory group. Build the file as you go.
What this means in practice
Two things make this requirement fail students more often than it should. First, the 2 credits do not affect CGPA, so it is easy to treat as optional until the final year — but it is mandatory for the award of the degree, and there is no way to substitute academic performance for it.
Second, most high-value entries carry a minimum duration of two or four semesters. NSS, NCC, NSO, society membership and club roles cannot be compressed into a final-semester scramble. The categories with no duration requirement are competition placements, entrepreneurship outcomes and self-initiatives — and of those, only foreign language skills and online courses are fully within your own control.
The practical route for most students is one two-semester national level activity (70) plus one self-initiative (50), which clears 100 with room to spare by the end of the second year.
