❓ Frequently Asked Question

How are KTU Honours and Minor courses assessed?

βœ… Answer

KTU Honours and Minor assessment splits in two, depending on the type of course. The regular courses are assessed exactly like any other course in your programme, under R6.1 to R6.23 β€” the same CIE and ESE split, the same pass minimum, the same grading. The MOOCs are not.

How MOOC credits work

Assessment and certification of the MOOCs follows the prescribed norms of the MOOC itself, not KTU’s examination system. To claim the credits you must produce the certification issued by the MOOC conducting agency as proof of credit attainment. KTU does not examine you on that material.

Who approves the courses

The curriculum and syllabus of the three regular courses are approved by the Board of Studies and the Academic Council, so the choice of courses is not left to individual colleges.

What this means in practice

Eight of the twenty extra credits for both Honours and Minor come from two MOOCs, and those hinge entirely on you keeping the certificate. Download and store it when you complete the course rather than at the end of the programme β€” MOOC platforms change, and without the certificate the credits cannot be attained no matter how well you did.
