About Mathematics for Electrical Science and Physical Science (GYMAT101)
Mathematics for Electrical Science and Physical Science โ 1 (GYMAT101) is a first-semester course in the KTU B.Tech 2024 scheme, common to Group B and Group C branches such as ECE, EEE, Civil and Mechanical. It builds the core maths used to model and analyse engineering systems, from electric circuits to vibrating structures.
Syllabus
- Module 1: Matrices: solving systems of linear equations, rank, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, and diagonalization.
- Module 2: Second-order ordinary differential equations and their solution methods.
- Module 3: Laplace transforms, inverse transforms, and solving differential equations with them.
- Module 4: Fourier series, including even and odd functions and half-range expansions.
Exam pattern
The end-semester exam is for 60 marks: 8 short questions of 3 marks each, plus 4 questions of 9 marks each, one from each module. Internal assessment adds 40 marks.
Study tips
Maths rewards regular practice. Solve a few problems from each module every week, learn the standard Laplace transform formulas, and work through previous question papers to see which problem types repeat.
