About Engineering Graphics & Computer Aided Drawing (GMEST103)
Engineering Graphics and Computer Aided Drawing (GMEST103) is a first-semester course in the KTU B.Tech 2024 scheme, common to Group A, B and D branches such as CSE, IT, ECE and EEE. It teaches how to draw and read engineering drawings by hand, and introduces drawing on the computer with CAD software.
Syllabus
- Module 1: Projection of points and straight lines, including lines inclined to both planes, true length and traces.
- Module 2: Projection of solids such as prisms, pyramids, cones and cylinders, in simple and inclined positions.
- Module 3: Sections of solids, true shape of sections, and development of surfaces.
- Module 4: Isometric projection and an introduction to Computer Aided Drawing (CAD).
Exam pattern
The end-semester exam is for 60 marks, and every question is a drawing. There are 8 questions of 15 marks each, 2 from every module, and you answer one from each module. Internal assessment adds 40 marks, including assignments and a CAD lab exam. CAD is assessed only internally.
Study tips
Practise drawing regularly, since speed and neatness matter in a 2½-hour drawing exam. Keep your construction lines light, label every view, and solve previous question papers to learn the common problem types.
